About This Place

If you’re craving an authentic taste of the Philippines right in the heart of San Antonio, KABAYAN KUSINA offers a true culinary escape. This Filipino restaurant, located conveniently at 5238 De Zavala Rd #124, serves up a vibrant menu that celebrates traditional flavors with dishes that appear as inviting as they taste.

From the moment you step inside, KABAYAN KUSINA balances a casual, unpretentious atmosphere—think spacious wood tables and a clean, modern design—with genuinely warm and attentive service, making it a welcoming spot for both families and solo diners. While the setting leans toward a straightforward cafeteria style, the hospitality and food elevate the experience far beyond the ordinary.

The menu reads like a love letter to Filipino cuisine, with standout dishes that beckon through savory, complex layers of flavor. The Pancit Palabok is a feast for both the eyes and palate—tender rice noodles drenched in a rich shrimp gravy, topped with crispy chicharron, boiled egg slices, green onions, and fried garlic that add texture and aroma. Alongside are comforting plates like Pancit Bihon and Pancit Canton, each stir-fried noodles richly infused with vegetables and savory meats.

For those who favor hearty, meat-forward dishes, Kabayan Kusina truly shines. The Crispy Pata—a slow-prepared deep-fried pork knuckle—arrives after a short wait, promising a crackling, flavorful bite worth every minute. Pork aficionados will find much to love in the Pork Belly Roll and iconic Sisig, brimming with bold, traditional spices that remind you of home-cooked meals. The Pork Barbecue, tender and perfectly grilled, emerges as a crowd favorite, praised repeatedly by regulars as both expertly made and deeply satisfying.

On the lighter, refreshingly sweet side, their Halo-Halo and Sago Gulaman drinks offer a delightful balance to the savory dishes, while Pineapple Juice serves as a crisp, tropical refresher. The Bagoong Fried Rice and House Fried Rice bring a fragrant, umami-packed complement to the meaty mains.

Though KABAYAN KUSINA offers a meat-centric menu with limited vegetarian options, the quality and authenticity of their dishes make each meal an unforgettable taste journey. Customers rave about the friendly staff and thoughtfully prepared food, making it more than just a dining spot—it’s a comforting place that draws you back, again and again, for genuine Filipino comfort food.

Whether you’re a Filipino food enthusiast or someone eager to explore new flavors, Kabayan Kusina’s dedication to authentic preparation, robust flavors, and heartfelt service makes it a standout destination in San Antonio’s culinary scene.

This is my top pick for Filipino food. The prices are steep, but the dishes are tasty and the staff is super friendly. Just a heads up: they have limited veggie options and focus more on meat.

A friend recommended this place for good Filipino food and we are glad we tried it. The food was very delicious and the wait staff was excellent. We ordered the Chicken Adobo, Ginisang Monggo Lechon (mung bean & fried pork belly stew), Pancit Bihon (Pork & noodles), and Sago Gulaman (plant-based jelly and tapioca drink). The dishes are family style, so they can be shared by all. My wife has more experience with Filipino food and she really enjoyed the food.

Kabayan Kusina is one of my favorite spots in San Antonio for real Filipino comfort food. The pork barbecue is outstanding. It is tender, flavorful, and grilled just right. I also really enjoy the sisig and laing, both packed with flavor and cooked the way they should be. Everything tastes fresh and authentic. If you try just one thing, I very highly recommend the pork barbecue.

The food is the best of its type in the area. Its not like back home in many provinces but close enough. The service was the real highlight here. They were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was a bit sterile like a cafeteria but at least it had nice large wood tables and some design to it. The atmosphere was far better than many other pinoy places.

This place is amazing. The food, service is just like the Philippines in the U.S. We went twice and for us. It's the closest to my wife feeling at home. Definitely the BEST we've had outside of the Philippines and we/I have had as many Filipino restaurants as we can find.

This place is amazing! The lumpia is great but let me put you onto one of the best pieces of cake I have ever had in my life! First of all, I love all things Ube. I just had a slice of their Crème brûlée Ube Cake and it was out of this world! Light, fluffy, flavorful and HUGE! We will definitely be back.

This place feels like my mom’s kitchen with all my Auntie’s in the back making the most delicious food. It just has a comforting vibe. I was grateful to take my kids to this restaurant to celebrate Filipino American History Month so they could taste authentically cooked food from their culture. They are picky eaters, but loved it! We had pinakbet with rice, lumpia, and the halo-halo. I wish I could go back tomorrow! It’s definitely worth a try and I’m so glad it’s close to my house. ????????

A Taste of the Philippines Right in San Antonio –Kabayan Kusina Stepping into Kabayan Kusina feels like being welcomed into someone’s home someone who just happens to cook like a Filipino abuelita with a secret arsenal of flavor. From the very first bite, you know this place isn’t just about food it’s about soul. The Adobo Chicken was light yet deeply savory, kissed with just the right amount of citrus and perfectly stir-fried veggies. What really stood out was the warmth. The staff treated us like regulars from the moment we walked in. It wasn’t just good service it was family energy. You can tell this place is built on tradition, pride, and love. This isn’t fast food. This is comfort food Filipino comfort food done right. 5 out of 5 stars. A hidden gem with a heart. Highly recommend it whether you’re Filipino and craving a taste of home, or just a hungry human in search of something real.
